The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested Mr. Chinana Tali for allegedly attempting to sell his six-year-old son for N20 million in Abuja. Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, disclosed that the arrest occurred during the attempted sale after Tali was lured to Abuja from Benue.Facing financial hardship with six children, Tali confessed to attempting to sell his son to alleviate his family’s financial struggles. The NSCDC orchestrated a sting operation at a garden, deploying an undercover officer as a buyer, resulting in Tali’s apprehension.During questioning, Tali initially demanded N20 million for the boy and offered to sell his girl child for N15 million if a buyer for the boy wasn’t found. The paternity of the children remains uncertain, prompting further investigation to uncover the truth.Commandant Odumosu emphasized the gravity of child trafficking, expressing the NSCDC’s commitment to preventing such crimes. Tali, his son, and an accomplice were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for thorough investigation and potential prosecution.Mrs. Chinyere Oseafiama, NAPTIP Senior Intelligence Assistant, assured a comprehensive inquiry into the case and pledged appropriate actions. In a related development, Odumosu reported the arrest of a young man vandalizing armored cables along the Idu Railway Line, emphasizing the prosecution of the suspect to serve as a deterrent to other vandals.
