An incident unfolded at the 35 Artillery Brigade in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a Nigerian Army operative, Boyi ThankGod, reportedly shot himself in the head and died instantly. The unfortunate event occurred on Armed Forces Remembrance Day, while the soldier was on standby duty. Sources within the Army, speaking anonymously, revealed an ongoing investigation to understand the reasons behind this tragic act.According to one source, the late soldier had expressed grievances about unpaid allowances and had exhibited signs of depression leading up to the incident. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, meant to honor military personnel, turned somber as the soldier took his own life, adding a layer of sorrow to the occasion. The source highlighted that ThankGod, attached to the 35 Artillery Brigade headquarters in Abeokuta, had already demonstrated a waning interest in his military duties, citing concerns about corruption within the military and low morale as contributing factors. As the military police officers conduct their investigation, the circumstances surrounding the soldier’s suicide are awaited, and the spokesperson of the brigade, Mohammed Goni, was not available for comment at the time of reporting.
