A school teacher has died after being attacked by a 17-year-old student in the Perm region of Russia, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at the entrance of a school in the town of Dobryanka. The victim, identified as Olesya Petrovna Baguta, was a teacher of Russian language and literature, born in 1970.
Regional governor Dmitry Makhonin disclosed that the teacher was rushed for medical attention following the attack but did not survive despite efforts by doctors to save her.
Law enforcement officials arrested the suspect, who has been identified by the country’s Investigative Committee as a 17-year-old student of the same school.
Authorities noted that the case is under investigation.
The incident adds to a series of violent episodes reported in educational institutions across Russia in recent months, including knife-related attacks at a university in the Urals and a school in Siberia, as well as an air gun incident in central parts of the country.
