The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has launched a new community security initiative with the inauguration of 5,000 Ibadan Guards aimed at improving safety across the city.
At the official unveiling, the monarch explained that the guards were established to support existing security agencies in maintaining law and order throughout the 11 local government areas in Ibadanland. He noted that the initiative is designed to strengthen community protection and deter criminal activities.
According to him, the presence of the guards will enhance vigilance and help make Ibadan a safer environment for residents and investors. He stressed that ensuring security should not be left to government authorities alone but must involve active participation from the community.
The Olubadan described the programme as a strategic step toward building a more secure society, adding that it would operate in collaboration with law enforcement agencies rather than replace them. He emphasised that effective cooperation between the guards and official security bodies would be essential for success.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Olubadan Economic and Investment Committee, Onikepo Akande, highlighted that the initiative complements the government’s security framework. She noted that it provides a structured approach for residents to contribute to safeguarding their neighbourhoods.
Both leaders reiterated that the programme is intended to promote collective responsibility in tackling insecurity and ensuring peace across Ibadanland.
