Police in Anambra State have arrested the personal driver of a Pentecostal bishop based in Asaba for allegedly killing his employer and fleeing with the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep.
The suspect, whose identity was withheld due to ongoing investigations, was arrested alongside another man in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, while allegedly attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, disclosed the development during a press briefing at the state police headquarters in Awka.
According to the police commissioner, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, who worked as the cleric’s driver and domestic staff, allegedly conspired with other accomplices still at large to murder the bishop before escaping to Anambra State with the vehicle.
He explained that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of both suspects and the recovery of the stolen Prado Jeep.
“The suspect allegedly conspired with other criminal elements to murder the cleric before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle to Anambra State for sale,” the CP said.
Police added that investigations were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and uncover the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
The command also advised residents to thoroughly verify and profile domestic workers, drivers and other household employees before employing them.
The police assured the public of continued intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
