Mrs. Chioma Eke, widow of Chimuanya Eke, has narrated how suspected terrorists allegedly shot her husband dead in Eziobodo community near the Federal University of Technology Owerri, leaving her alone to care for their five children.
Chioma said the family moved to the area barely three months earlier so her husband could expand his clothing business around the university community. According to her, the late businessman left home in the evening to buy medication for their baby who was sick before unknowingly riding into an attack by suspected gunmen.
She explained that residents suddenly began shouting about an attack shortly after her husband left the house, adding that she later received a phone call informing her that he had been shot and taken to a hospital in Ihiagwa.
The widow disclosed that relatives and vigilante operatives tried to save him after rushing him to the hospital, but he eventually died from the injuries.
Chioma also revealed that one of their daughters had dreamt about kidnappers trying to seize her father days before the incident, a development the family had prayed against.
Now left with five children between the ages of one and twelve, the grieving mother appealed to Nigerians and the Imo State government for financial assistance to enable her start a clothing business and cater for her children’s welfare.
