The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Bashar Aliyu, for allegedly stabbing his 70-year-old grandfather, Ibrahim Maisaje, to death in Sabon Kariya Village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred on May 17 and was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ganjuwa by a resident of the community.
The spokesperson for the command, Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed that the suspect was immediately arrested while preliminary investigations commenced into the matter.
Police said no weapon was recovered from the scene, adding that the case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and assured residents that justice would be pursued in line with the law.
He also urged members of the public to embrace peaceful conflict resolution and report suspicious activities to security agencies to help prevent violent incidents in communities.
