Chairman of the Northern Christian Association (NCA), Rev. Joseph Hayab, has cautioned politicians against greed, manipulation and selfish leadership, urging public office holders to fear God and serve as positive examples to younger Nigerians.
Hayab, who is also the Senior Pastor of Amazing Grace Baptist Church, spoke on Sunday after the dedication of the church auditorium in Gonin Gora, Kaduna State.
The event was attended by politicians, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
Speaking with journalists after the service, the cleric stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and religious harmony, saying Nigerians must embrace unity regardless of ethnic, political or religious differences.
According to him, fear of God remains the foundation of wisdom and responsible leadership.
Hayab noted that the church deliberately invited people of other faiths to the event as part of efforts to strengthen peace and mutual understanding in the country.
He said the presence of Muslim guests throughout the service reflected the kind of religious understanding and tolerance Nigeria needs.
The cleric added that building churches and mosques would have little meaning if Nigerians failed to live peacefully with one another.
He urged citizens to work together and leave behind a legacy of love, sacrifice and peace for future generations.
Hayab also charged political leaders to demonstrate integrity and accountability, warning that many young Nigerians now see manipulation and selfishness as pathways to success because of the conduct of some leaders.
According to him, manipulation should not be mistaken for intelligence or achievement, noting that dishonest actions often lead to disgrace and disruption.
He further reminded leaders that everyone would one day give account of their actions before God.
Hayab has consistently advocated peaceful coexistence and interfaith dialogue in Northern Nigeria, especially in Kaduna State where religious and ethnic tensions have occasionally triggered violence.
