A private jet, with 10 individuals on board, including VIPs, experienced a crash landing in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The incident unfolded around 11 am at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, where the jet, identified as N580KR, overshot the runway, landing in a nearby bush.Swiftly responding to the emergency, firefighters and rescue teams from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.According to Carol Adekotujo, a spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the private plane, originating from Abuja, safely landed but exceeded the runway. This incident follows a series of aviation mishaps, including one involving the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in November. Adelabu and passengers narrowly escaped tragedy when their plane crash-landed at the same airport. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), responsible for probing such incidents, initiated an inquiry into the November crash. In December 2023, the NSIB revealed that the operators of the private jet, Flints Aero Services Ltd, lacked essential night flight experience. The report highlighted issues such as limited night flying hours for the captain, the aircraft veering off the runway during landing, and substantial damage to the fuselage, landing gear, and flaps.Despite this recent incident, the aviation community remains dedicated to ensuring safety measures and regulatory compliance in the industry.
