Eight security personnel, including five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), were killed after Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on a Nigerian Army base in Mandaragirau, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to Operation HADIN KAI, the attackers stormed the Forward Operating Base around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, taking advantage of heavy rainfall and poor visibility. Troops at the base mounted a strong resistance and successfully repelled the assault, inflicting casualties on the insurgents and preventing them from overrunning the facility.

The military confirmed that five soldiers lost their lives during the fierce gun battle, while three CJTF operatives were also killed. Several wounded personnel were evacuated by air for medical treatment and were reported to be in stable condition.

Operation HADIN KAI described the fallen personnel as heroes who demonstrated exceptional courage and commitment in defending the country. The military added that troops remain in full control of the base and have continued clearance operations in the surrounding area.

The command noted that the attack reflects the desperation of terrorist groups facing sustained military pressure across the North-East. Additional troops and combat resources have reportedly been deployed to strengthen security and maintain ongoing operations against insurgents.

However, local sources claimed the attackers operated for nearly an hour after the downpour, while community leaders alleged that more than one location came under attack. They called on the government to strengthen intelligence gathering and increase community involvement in efforts to combat terrorism.
