The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has elevated the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to the position of Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.
Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, announced the elevation in a statement shared on his X account on Saturday.
The senator said he could not attend the ceremony at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, because he is currently in the Holy Land for Umrah.
He expressed gratitude to Oba Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, and members of the Olubadan Advisory Council for the honour and confidence placed in him.
Alli also thanked the Mogajis, traditional rulers, Baales, political associates and friends who represented him at the ceremony.
He described the elevation as more than a change in title, saying it comes with increased responsibility to the people of Ibadanland.
According to him, the new position presents an opportunity to contribute further to the peace, unity, progress and development of the people.
Alli’s latest elevation follows changes in the Balogun line of the Olubadan succession system.
He was previously elevated from Maye Balogun to Ekarun Balogun in August 2024 by the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The Oyo State Government also approved his elevation to the rank of a beaded crown-wearing Oba in March 2026. His coronation, alongside two other high chiefs, was subsequently held in April in his absence.
Alli said he was prepared to assume the responsibilities attached to his latest position and serve the people.
