Halima Dangote, daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, has explained why she and her sisters, Fatima and Mariya, have largely stayed away from the public spotlight despite their privileged background.

In a resurfaced video from Bloomberg’s Next Africa programme, Halima said the three sisters deliberately maintain a low profile and prefer to let their professional achievements speak for them.

She explained that unlike some people who are comfortable displaying their wealth and personal lives on social media, she and her sisters are generally private about what they own and how they live.

According to Halima, the sisters prefer to be recognised for their work and results rather than their family name or wealth.

She pointed to business achievements, including company growth, profits and other performance indicators, as the measures by which they want their contributions to be judged.

Halima said being recognised publicly had made privacy more difficult, noting that life was easier when fewer people knew their identities.

The resurfaced video has generated reactions on social media, with some users praising the sisters for maintaining a relatively private lifestyle while holding senior positions within the Dangote Group.

Other users also commented on their professional roles and the family’s succession plans.

Halima, Fatima and Mariya currently occupy senior positions within the Dangote Group as the conglomerate continues to develop its leadership structure.

Aliko Dangote had previously indicated that one of his daughters could eventually lead the business empire, saying he had observed all three and believed one of them could take charge of the group in the future.
