Troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace have rescued two herders who sustained injuries during an attack by suspected militia members in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 18 near the Rafin Bauna community while the victims were grazing their cattle.
According to security sources, soldiers attached to Sector 3 swiftly mobilized to the area after receiving a distress alert about the attack.
Their timely intervention forced the assailants to flee before further harm could be inflicted. The troops subsequently secured the area and carried out a search operation in the surrounding community.
The victims were identified as Yusuf Isiaku and Mubarak Lawan. Isiaku suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, while Lawan sustained minor injuries during the incident.
Both men were evacuated to a nearby medical facility, where they are receiving treatment.
Security agencies have launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Military authorities noted that the rapid response by troops helped prevent the situation from escalating and ensured the victims received urgent medical attention.
