A six-month-old baby was rescued alive after a fire broke out in a residential building at Olomi Compound in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Drivetvnews gathered that the incident occurred around 8:38 p.m. on Saturday when a fire, reportedly caused by an unattended gas leak, engulfed the ground floor of a private one-storey building containing three rooms.
According to the Oyo State Fire Service, the agency received a distress call from a resident, Abiodun Mayowa, and immediately dispatched firefighters to the scene.
The fire crew swiftly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to the upper floor of the building and nearby properties. During the rescue operation, a six-month-old baby trapped inside the building was successfully brought out alive.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Reform and Chairman of the Fire Services Reform Committee, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the fire was traced to an unattended gas leak.
Following the incident, fire officials educated residents and sympathisers on basic fire safety practices, stressing the need for proper installation, regular inspection and maintenance of cooking gas cylinders and appliances.
The agency also advised homeowners, shop owners and office operators to install suitable fire extinguishers and observe essential fire prevention measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
