The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that American forces carried out another round of airstrikes against Iranian military targets, intensifying efforts to curb attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, the operation concluded at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 20, targeting military command centres, maritime assets, missile and drone launch sites, and air defence systems linked to Iran’s operations in and around the strategic waterway.

The command said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s capacity to threaten commercial shipping and ensuring the continued safety of one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping corridor, handling a significant portion of the world’s crude oil exports. Tensions in the area have escalated in recent months following repeated attacks on commercial vessels, prompting increased military patrols by the United States and its allies.

Despite the ongoing conflict, CENTCOM stated that commercial shipping through the strait has continued uninterrupted. It disclosed that since early May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the safe transit of approximately 900 commercial vessels carrying nearly 450 million barrels of crude oil.

The military also reiterated its commitment to protecting international navigation, warning that U.S. forces remain prepared to respond to any further attacks against civilian shipping.

The latest strikes mark another escalation in the confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with the United States insisting its operations are intended to safeguard international maritime commerce and maintain freedom of navigation.

Iran, however, has accused the U.S. of violating ceasefire agreements and has vowed to maintain its control over the Strait of Hormuz.

The continued conflict has fueled concerns in global energy markets, contributing to rising oil prices and renewed international calls for restraint to prevent further escalation in the region.
