Controversial Nigerian content creator and disc jockey, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been released from detention after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos court.

Drivetvnews gathered that His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday through an Instagram Story, expressing gratitude and celebrating his client’s release. Human rights activist and SaharaReporters publisher Omoyele Sowore also announced the release on X, stating that DJ Chicken had reunited with his family and loved ones while stressing the need to resist oppression and injustice.

A video shared on Instagram shortly after his release showed the social media personality smiling and interacting with fans while inside a vehicle alongside his lawyer.

DJ Chicken had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after appearing before a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, over allegations of threatening to kill Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

He faced a three-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences, breach of peace, and making death threats following a viral video in which he claimed President Tinubu would not secure re-election in 2027.

After the video sparked widespread criticism, DJ Chicken withdrew the statement, insisting it was intended as a joke to gain attention and increase his online popularity. Despite the apology, he was arrested and charged before the court.

The court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in the same amount. One surety was required to be a civil servant, while the other had to be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both were also directed to provide three years of tax clearance, utility bills, National Identification Number details, and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency documents. In addition, one of the sureties had to be a blood relative of the defendant.

With the bail conditions now satisfied, DJ Chicken has regained his freedom. However, the criminal case remains before the court and has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, when proceedings are expected to continue.
