Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, alongside the appointment of other principal officers to key leadership positions.
Drivetvnews gathered that the newly appointed officials include Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian.
The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, following the governor’s approval.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, explained that the recruitment process complied with the approved guidelines for appointing principal officers in state-owned tertiary institutions. He noted that vacancies were publicly advertised in national newspapers before qualified candidates were screened and interviewed by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar.
According to Adelabu, the appointments took effect on July 31, 2026, with each appointee expected to serve a single five-year tenure.
He congratulated the new principal officers and urged them to provide purposeful leadership that would enhance academic excellence, strengthen institutional stability, and promote the continued growth of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The appointments also mark the end of a prolonged period during which the institution’s key leadership positions were occupied in acting capacities.
