A group of armed assassins, characterized as bandits or terrorists, carried out a series of attacks in Katsina state overnight on Wednesday and into Thursday morning, resulting in the death of at least three individuals and the abduction of several others. In a particularly distressing incident during Ishai prayer on Wednesday night, the perpetrators unleashed gunfire on unsuspecting Muslim worshippers, claiming the lives of three individuals.According to an account provided to Vanguard by a witness, “The attackers targeted our Muslim brothers during Ishai prayer. Sadly, two individuals lost their lives inside the mosque, while a third was fatally shot outside as he tried to flee. Four others sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Kankara.”The situation worsened as the attackers proceeded to abduct a man and two women during the assault. “Regrettably, the man’s refusal to comply with the assailants led to his brutal murder as he defied their demands,” the witness added. In a separate incident around 2:30 am on Thursday, the assailants targeted the home of Sani Maikifi, a member of the vigilante group, in Ungwar Tudun Boka within Kankara township. Fortunately, Sani managed to escape through his backyard, eluding capture. However, his wife and son were abducted by the attackers. The source disclosed that the assailants, who had been monitoring Sani for some time, carried out the attack discreetly, infiltrating the community within Kankara township without raising suspicion. In yet another attack, at approximately 11:30 PM on Thursday, armed individuals raided Dangani in Musawa local government area, firing indiscriminately. According to reports, the criminals were tracking a wealthy individual from the south, who had visited the area to offer condolences to a bereaved relative.Fortunately, the individual managed to evade capture. However, the assailants abducted numerous residents from the area during the incident, according to the source.
