Fast-rising Nigerian X influencer and chef Esther Meinzide, popularly known as Big Esther, has reportedly died alongside her sister in a fatal road crash in Ogun State.
The tragedy occurred on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore Expressway around the Bethel area on Monday, October 6, with the Federal Road Safety Corps confirming that nine people died in the accident.
The crash involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a Sino truck. The victims comprised three males and six females, while preliminary findings identified speed violation as the probable cause. The FRSC also disclosed that the road was wet due to rainfall when the crash occurred.
Esther, who used the X handle @BigEsther30, was reportedly travelling towards Delta State with her younger sister when the bus was involved in the crash. Her death was later confirmed by friends, with tributes pouring in across social media.
Reports also indicated that Esther had shared footage of her journey shortly before the accident, showing her inside the bus.
Following the tragedy, an old post attributed to Esther in which she reportedly discussed the type of death she feared most resurfaced online. However, the authenticity and timing of the post could not be independently verified from authoritative sources reviewed for the report.
The resurfaced post has generated emotional reactions online, with some users reflecting on Esther’s reported fears and others urging people to be mindful of their words and thoughts.
One social media user, Daniel Nick, wrote, “When they say there’s power in the tongue, people think it’s a joke.”
Another user, Namzy Bako, said people should seek grace to reject fearful thoughts, while others expressed sadness over the loss and prayed for the deceased.
The incident has continued to generate grief online, particularly following reports that Esther and her sister were among those who lost their lives in the crash.
