The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men suspected of armed robbery and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.
The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division received a distress call reporting an armed robbery in the area, according to a statement released by the command on Sunday.
Following the report, a police patrol team was immediately dispatched to the location, where officers confronted the suspected robbers and arrested three individuals.
The suspects were identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
The police said the incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m., when armed men were reportedly attacking residents and dispossessing them of their belongings around the junction.
Items recovered during the operation included a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally made pistol and one live cartridge.
The command stated that the recovered items had been secured as exhibits to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the alleged crimes.
During preliminary investigations, the suspects reportedly confessed to robbing a tricycle operator and two passengers. They were also alleged to have injured other individuals during their operations.
The police disclosed that the three suspects remained in custody, while the case had been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and protecting lives and property across the state.
He emphasised the importance of responding promptly to distress calls, using intelligence-led policing and sustaining operations against criminal activities.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal incidents to the police, stressing that timely and credible information from the public was essential to improving security across the state.
