Social commentator Prince Isaac Fayose has criticised the Federal Government following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing Nigerian Army personnel supervising the distribution of free bread during a political campaign.
The footage, which sparked widespread reactions on social media, reportedly showed soldiers managing crowds in a Yoruba-speaking community as residents queued to receive one loaf of bread each.
The development attracted criticism from some Nigerians, who accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly exploiting poverty to gain political support.
Reacting to the video in a Facebook post on Friday, Fayose accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using poverty for political advantage.
He expressed disappointment that military personnel were allegedly involved in supervising the distribution of bread to citizens facing economic hardship.
Fayose questioned how the country had reached a situation where, in his view, poverty was being used as a tool for electoral gains.
He also criticised the APC administration, describing it as a failure, particularly under Tinubu’s leadership.
The social commentator further questioned the response of Yoruba people to the situation, alleging that tribal sentiments were being used to sustain political support.
The viral footage has continued to generate debate over the role of military personnel in activities linked to political campaigns. However, the circumstances surrounding the soldiers’ presence at the bread distribution exercise were not clarified in the report.
