The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has advised President Bola Tinubu and members of his team to resign and return to school to learn economics properly.
Adebayo made the statement on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while reacting to the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day petrol discount through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, had announced that the government would offer discounted petrol at NNPCL stations for 30 days.
Reacting to the policy, Adebayo argued that the arrangement lacked clarity and could cause harm to the government and Nigerians.
“If I were in their shoes, I would resign and go back to school and learn economics properly, so that I don’t cause harm to the government and to the people,” he said.
He likened the government’s announcement to the Nigerian television comedy series Fuji House of Commotion, describing the policy as confusing and illogical.
Adebayo also questioned the representation of NNPCL at the press briefing, arguing that the company had its own management and that those who addressed the issue did not represent it.
He further questioned the legal and financial framework for the discount, claiming that the Ministry of Finance had no account specifically designated for fuel discounts.
The SDP candidate also argued that a 30-day arrangement was too brief to provide a lasting solution to the country’s fuel pricing challenges.
“They didn’t refer to any law that authorized them to do the fuel discount. It looks to me that President Tinubu’s government is confused,” he added.
Adebayo’s comments add to the criticism surrounding the Federal Government’s latest intervention aimed at addressing petrol prices and the rising cost of living.

Title: Fuel Price: SDP’s Adebayo Tells Tinubu and His Team to Resign, Return to School
The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has advised President Bola Tinubu and members of his team to resign and return to school to learn economics properly.
Adebayo made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while reacting to the Federal Government’s announcement of a 30-day petrol discount through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, had announced that the government would offer discounted petrol at NNPCL stations for an initial period of 30 days.
Reacting to the announcement, Adebayo argued that the policy lacked clarity and could cause more harm than good.
“If I were in their shoes, I would resign and go back to school and learn economics properly, so that I don’t cause harm to the government and to the people,” he said.
He compared the government’s approach to the comedy series Fuji House of Commotion, describing the petrol discount announcement as “Tinubu’s house of commotion.”
Adebayo also questioned the authority of the officials who announced the measure, arguing that the NNPCL had its own management and that the government had not clearly explained the legal basis for the discount.
He further questioned how the Ministry of Finance would handle the arrangement, claiming that the announcement did not identify any legal provision authorising the government to introduce the measure.
“One month is not even short-term. It’s a flash in the pan,” he said.
The SDP candidate concluded that the announcement reflected confusion within the Tinubu administration.
His comments have added to the ongoing political debate over the Federal Government’s petrol pricing measures and efforts to address rising transportation and living costs.
