An unidentified Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) has reportedly been crushed to death by a truck opposite Mega Primary School, along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
A video shared on Friday by Akure-based radio station Crest FM showed residents gathering at the scene and shouting following the fatal incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the officer attempted to intercept the truck while it was already in the fast lane but was unable to stop it before the incident occurred.
The officer was reportedly trapped beneath the trailer after the truck struck him, leaving residents at the scene distressed.
The video also showed some of the officer’s colleagues panicking as they watched the incident unfold, while other residents gathered around the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident, including what led the officer to attempt to stop the truck, remained unclear as of the time of reporting.
