Veteran Nigerian actor John Okafor, famously known as Mr Ibu, has passed away due to health complications stemming from prolonged blood clotting in his leg. He died on Saturday, March 2, at a hospital in Lagos.
Mr Ibu had been battling blood clotting issues caused by diseased blood vessels for some time, facing various health challenges along the way. In October 2023, he made a public appeal for financial assistance to tackle his condition, initially planning to seek treatment abroad. However, medical professionals advised against international travel, leading to the abandonment of that option.
His health continued to decline, resulting in the amputation of his leg in November 2023, marking a difficult phase in his fight against the debilitating ailment. Mr Ibu was 62 years old at the time of his passing.
