A recent graduate of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Miss Ezekiel Mary Ogechi, tragically lost her life on Tuesday when she was crushed by a fast-moving tanker in front of the institution.

Ogechi, who had just completed her studies in accounting and was at the Polytechnic to complete her academic clearance before joining the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), met with her unfortunate fate after exchanging pleasantries with her classmates in anticipation of her upcoming mobilization for the NYSC program.

Known for her academic excellence, Ogechi had achieved distinction in accounting and had even secured a scholarship for a post-graduate course. However, her promising future was cut short when she was hit by a tricycle while attempting to cross the road and subsequently crushed by a speeding truck.

The news of Ogechi’s untimely death sparked outrage among students, prompting a protest that was eventually quelled by the management of Abia State Polytechnic and the Students Union Government.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Polytechnic regarding the incident, and attempts to reach the Abia State Police Command for comment have been unsuccessful.

Sadly, Ogechi’s tragic accident is not an isolated incident in the state, as just last year, another individual met a similar fate after being pushed from a moving Keke NAPEP and crushed by a trailer.
