President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Ministry of Education to integrate graduates of the National Open University (NOUN) into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. Additionally, Tinubu has addressed the longstanding issue of NOUN Law graduates’ admission to Law School, ensuring equal opportunities.
During his address at NOUN’s 13th convocation ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu, represented by Biodun Saliu from the National Universities Commission, emphasized the need to accommodate NOUN graduates within the age limits prescribed by law.
Tinubu stated, “Recognizing the changing demographics of our nation, the government acknowledges the importance of allowing NOUN graduates to partake in the NYSC scheme. The doors of the Law School are now open to these graduates, ensuring fairness for all.”
He further pledged the government’s commitment, through the Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC, to create a conducive environment for the effective delivery of distance education in Nigeria, aiming to enhance quality, accessibility, and affordability.
Emphasizing the significance of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Tinubu underscored his administration’s dedication to leveraging ODL to broaden access to higher education nationwide, aligning with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Expressing satisfaction with NOUN’s role in advancing educational objectives through ICT, Tinubu affirmed its centrality in achieving the government’s educational agenda.
