The Lagos State Government, operating through the state’s Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA, has taken action to seal churches, hotels, bars, and other establishments in various areas of the state due to allegations of noise pollution.

These closures have affected facilities in Ifako-Ijaiye, Abesan Estate, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, and Dopemu.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s commissioner for environment, announced this measure via his official communication channel on Friday. Among the establishments affected are the Catholic Church, 1602 Hotel, Seventh Heaven Bar & Lounge, Lourita Hotel & Suites, God’s Porch Ministries, and Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries. Additionally, White Pavilion Hotel, Quest Hotel & Suites, Excel Hotel & Suite, and HoneyComb Confectionery Limited have also been affected.

The closures are temporary and serve to enforce compliance with environmental regulations. LASEPA emphasizes the importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards to avoid penalties. This action is part of the ongoing efforts to combat noise pollution in the state.

Recent closures of religious houses, hotels, event centers, and clubhouses have highlighted the seriousness of noise pollution offenses. It’s noteworthy that the approved noise level in residential areas should not exceed 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night.
