Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church has provided insight into the untimely death of the late Nigerian rapper Mohbad, suggesting that his stage name “Mohbad,” which means “I am bad,” had a significant impact on him. Pastor Bakare also mentioned that Mohbad’s choice of friends played a crucial role in his early demise. He stated that the late rapper had “reaped the reward of his actions” during his lifetime.
He explained, “When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth.” Despite this, Pastor Bakare emphasized that he didn’t blame Mohbad, posing the question to the congregation, “Is MohBad a good name?”
Pastor Bakare illustrated his point by recounting the story of an elderly man who drove a commercial vehicle and adopted the nickname “Eṣu,” a Yoruba word meaning “The Devil” in English. He explained that people hailed the driver by that name everywhere he went, and he responded to them with joy and excitement.
The cleric continued, “Everywhere he went, people hailed him as Eṣu, and he would acknowledge them. The day he crashed the car, and he killed people, and they threw him behind jail when he was brought out, he said ‘Mee se Eṣu Mee se Eṣu’ (I am not the devil).”
In response to the ongoing investigation into the late rapper’s death, a statement released on Saturday, September 23, clarified that the alleged nurse involved is not a member of their association. The police had arrested the nurse for questioning as one of the prime suspects in the sudden demise of Mohbad.
