A five-storey building belonging to Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State, collapsed along Ahmadu Bello Way in Abuja. The incident occurred around 9:00 pm yesterday, causing panic throughout the neighborhood. Responding swiftly, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command cordoned off the area immediately.
Reports indicate that the building was undergoing renovation at the time of the collapse. Eyewitnesses suggested that there might be individuals trapped inside the rubble. One eyewitness described the scene, mentioning the rescue of two people who were taken to the hospital, but noted a lack of coordination among emergency responders.
Contrary to initial fears, a statement from the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that three individuals were rescued from the collapsed building. The statement clarified that the collapse occurred at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street at approximately 8:40 pm on July 1, 2024. Commissioner of Police CP Benneth C.
