In a reported suicide note found at the base of a mast, the author outlined several demands aimed at addressing pressing issues in Nigeria. Among these demands was the return of the fuel subsidy, along with calls for governmental action to alleviate the burdens faced by Nigerians. The note expressed a readiness to sacrifice one’s life in pursuit of solutions to Nigeria’s major problems, urging fellow Nigerians to join in protest.

The note listed specific demands, including the immediate return of the fuel subsidy, the declaration of a state of emergency in states like Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and Borno due to insecurity, and urgent measures to combat terrorism nationwide. It also called for the reopening of borders for food importation to tackle food shortages and immediate governmental intervention to address the growing issue of out-of-school children.

This incident echoes a similar protest in September 2018, when Nurudeen Lliyasu, aged 28, climbed a telecommunications mast in Abuja to draw attention to the country’s struggling economy.
