The family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has initiated a second autopsy to clarify the cause of his death. On June 26, the Coroner Court Magistrate in Ikorodu, Lagos State, T.A. Shotobi, authorized Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to engage a licensed pathologist for an independent examination.

The court instructed that Aloba be responsible for all expenses related to this examination. Monisola Odumosu, a member of the family’s legal team, confirmed that the autopsy took place on July 19 and July 20. She explained that if the preliminary autopsy fails to reveal the cause of death, further toxicology and histology tests will be conducted on the samples collected.

“The second autopsy, arranged by the Aloba family and mandated by Magistrate T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on July 19 and 20, 2024. This is a two-phase procedure, and should the initial examination not determine the cause of death, we will proceed with toxicology and histology tests,” said Odumosu.

The legal team also noted that the autopsy was observed by Mohbad’s father and two pathologists selected by both him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi. “The procedure was supervised by Mr. Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist he selected, his legal representatives, and a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba,” the statement added.

Mohbad, who passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, had departed from the Marlian Music record label, owned by Naira Marley, in February 2022. His death sparked controversy and led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.

Following Mohbad’s death, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy to investigate the cause of death. A pathologist testified before the Coroner’s Court on May 15 that the decomposition of Mohbad’s body had obstructed the determination of the cause of death.
