William Kumuyi, the General Overseer of Deeper Life Christian Ministry, has called on Nigerian youth to engage in dialogue with the Federal Government to foster positive socio-economic changes in the country. Kumuyi made this statement on Wednesday while addressing reporters at Port Harcourt Airport.

Kumuyi was in Port Harcourt for a six-day event organized by the Change Makers International Initiative (CMII). As the Convener of CMII, he described the initiative as a non-religious, non-partisan, and non-denominational movement focused on achieving positive societal change and creating a significant social impact in Nigeria. The event, titled “Driving Positive Change and Social Impact,” aims to enhance humanity and improve communities.

He explained, “The goal is to bring about positive change in the lives of Nigerians, regardless of their backgrounds, to foster desired social and spiritual transformation.”

Kumuyi highlighted the severe social, economic, and moral issues affecting Nigeria and stressed the need for collective action to address these challenges. He remarked, “The reality is that all hands must be on deck to effect necessary changes; otherwise, the society will continue to suffer.”

He emphasized that improvement can start with individual and collective efforts, noting, “Every person, family, and institution can contribute positively. If we improve in various areas, such as our relationships and interactions at work or in education, we can see national change. It doesn’t require monumental efforts.”

Kumuyi advocated for gradual changes, likening them to “little drops of water making a mighty ocean.” He urged that starting with personal and familial change and extending it to broader environments could turn around current problems.

He stressed that the focus should be on seeking improvement rather than assigning blame for past failures. “Pointing fingers will not resolve our issues; positive change is the path to healing the nation,” he said.

Kumuyi acknowledged that different groups, including the youth, older generations, and the government, might have varied perspectives on achieving change. However, he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration. “If we can pool our efforts and energy, avoiding conflict and striving for consensus, we can effectively bring about positive change,” he said.

He also mentioned the importance of mutual respect and love, suggesting that these values could facilitate constructive discussions and help avoid grievances. “When we respect and honor each other, we can engage in dialogue without hostility and work towards a better country,” Kumuyi added.

According to Kumuyi, personal transformation in attitude and mindset is crucial for broader societal change. He explained, “When individuals change, their interactions and relationships improve, leading to community and eventually national transformation. Like a ripple effect, individual efforts to shine light contribute to a brighter overall environment.”
