The Lagos State Police Command has issued a warrant for the arrest of Dr. Idara Bassey in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman named Abiola, who died during a buttocks enhancement procedure at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. This was confirmed by Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday.
Abiola had undergone a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), a procedure that involves transferring fat to the buttocks for increased volume. The situation took a tragic turn when a nurse, acting under Dr. Bassey’s instructions, administered an injection that caused Abiola to lose consciousness.
The BBL procedure is known to carry risks, despite its popularity among women in Lagos who often share their positive experiences online.
According to The Punch, Abiola left her residence in Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Ibeju Lekki, on Monday and instructed her driver to take her to the clinic for the procedure. After the injection was given, the driver reported that Abiola suddenly lost consciousness and struggled to breathe.
The nurse involved has been detained by the police, but Dr. Bassey, the clinic owner, is currently evading capture. Hundeyin has stated that Dr. Bassey is now considered a suspect and is wanted in the ongoing investigation.
