At least four people lost their lives after a trailer plunged into a ditch on the old Oyo-Ogbomosho Road. The incident also left several others injured, and it took place on Thursday night.
According to sources quoted by *Daily Post*, the accident occurred near the Emaayo-Seminary area in Ogbomosho. The trailer, traveling from Oyo to Ilorin, reportedly fell into a ditch at a badly damaged section of the road. Passengers were thrown from the vehicle and became trapped underneath until Friday morning.
*Drivetvnews* highlighted that the construction of the new Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomosho-Ilorin expressway has been ongoing since 2001.
“Numerous appeals have been made to both state and federal authorities to properly repair the road and to complete the new Ibadan-Ilorin highway, but these calls have largely been ignored,” the outlet noted. “The damaged part within the Ogbomoso area is less than 500 meters long, yet despite calls for government intervention for almost a year, no action has been taken. Community efforts have only provided temporary solutions,” said Kolapo, a resident of Ogbomoso.
Kolapo further criticized the state government for neglecting Ogbomosho, pointing out that, “The Oyo-Iseyin road is a federal road, but its reconstruction was carried out by the Oyo State government when the Federal Government failed to do so. That road covers several kilometers. Why can’t the state government help us with this stretch of less than 500 meters?”
