Social commentator Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, recently apologized to the Nigeria Police Force after wearing a police uniform in one of his videos.
As reported by Drivetvnews, the police criticized his use of the uniform, deeming it inappropriate, and initiated an investigation into the matter.
In the video, VeryDarkMan humorously referred to himself as a “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) of the Online Division” while wearing the police attire. Following public backlash, he released an apology video on Thursday, expressing regret for wearing clothing that resembled an official police uniform.
He urged Nigerians to seek proper authorization before wearing police uniforms to avoid potential misunderstandings or legal issues. “I just returned from the police station, where I was questioned about a post I made wearing an outfit that the police claim resembles their uniform,” he said.
VeryDarkMan clarified, “I had no intention of impersonating the police and sincerely apologize to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”
He also advised the public, saying, “I want to remind everyone to seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might resemble their uniform. Even with good intentions, some may misuse it, so obtaining full approval is essential.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to his lawyer, saying, “A big thank you to my lawyer, @adeyanjudeji, who is always ready to stand by me.”
