In 2024, as some welcomed new lives, others bid farewell to the world, reminding us that mortality spares neither the ordinary nor the extraordinary. This year witnessed the passing of several prominent figures, particularly within the theater and entertainment world.

Aderemi Adedeji (Olofa Ina)

Veteran actor Aderemi Adedeji, popularly known as Olofa Ina, passed away on January 4, 2024, at the age of 73. His family revealed he had been battling an illness for three weeks before his death. Known for his deep knowledge of Yoruba proverbs, Adedeji’s contribution to Yoruba theater remains significant.

Jimi Solanke

Renowned entertainer, musician, and poet Jimi Solanke left us on February 5, 2024, at 82. Solanke passed away at Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital, Ogun State. His legacy as a storyteller and actor continues to inspire generations.

Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji (Sisi Quadri)

On March 1, 2024, the entertainment world mourned the loss of Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, fondly called Sisi Quadri. The actor and comedian died at LAUTECH Hospital in Ogbomoso following a brief illness, just a day after the release of his movie Anikulapo. He was 55 years old.

John Okafor (Mr. Ibu)

English-language comedian John Okafor, better known as Mr. Ibu, passed away on March 2, 2024. His health challenges, which led to the amputation of a leg in 2023, culminated in his death at 32. He had undergone multiple surgeries in an attempt to survive.

Morenikeji Adeleke (Egbin Orun)

Soul singer Morenikeji Adeleke, known as Egbin Orun, died suddenly on April 28, 2024, at the age of 39. His colleagues praised his generosity and talent, which left an indelible mark on the Nigerian music scene.

Ganiyu Akinpelu (Ogunjimi)

Famed for his roles in rural-themed movies during the 1990s and early 2000s, actor Ganiyu Akinpelu, known as Ogunjimi, passed away on April 26, 2024, at 66. His son revealed that the veteran had been ill for three months before his demise.

Dayo Adewumi (Sule Suebebe)

The death of Dayo Adewumi, or Sule Suebebe, caused some controversy in 2024. Reports suggested family disputes over his burial arrangements, but his son dismissed these claims as false. Suebebe passed away after battling a prolonged illness. He was 66 years old.

Onyeka Onwenu

Legendary singer Onyeka Onwenu passed away on July 30, 2024, at 72. The news came after she performed at a friend’s birthday party. Onyeka had previously expressed her burial wishes in 2021, emphasizing celebration and joy.

Aduke Ajayi (Aduke Gold)

On December 11, 2024, soul singer Aduke Ajayi, popularly known as Aduke Gold, succumbed to cancer at 36. Her family accused UCH Ibadan of negligence, which they claimed contributed to her death. Aduke’s music career began under the name Aduke Penkele before she rebranded in 2008.

Dele Agbeyo (Dele Gold)

Just a month after Aduke Gold’s passing, the music world lost another legend, Dele Agbeyo, known as Dele Gold. A protégé of Juju music maestro Ebenezer Obey, Dele Gold’s death on December 11, 2024, marked another blow to the industry.

Rukayat Gawat Osifeso

Renowned Islamic spiritual singer Rukayat Gawat Osifeso passed away on September 24, 2024. Her sudden death left fans in shock. She was laid to rest in Ijebu-Ayepe, Ogun State, on the same day.

Ayobami Olabiyi (Bobo B)

Ayobami Mudashir Olabiyi, popularly known as Bobo B, died on October 16, 2024, after battling illness for two months. Fellow actor Toyin Adegbola confirmed his passing, noting that he was initially admitted to UCH Ibadan before being transferred.

Abdulsalam Ishola (Charles Olumo Agbako)

On October 31, 2024, the entertainment industry mourned the loss of Abdulsalam Ishola, famously called Charles Olumo Agbako. Born in 1923, Agbako passed away at the age of 91. Known for his commanding presence and memorable dialogues, he was a stalwart of Nigerian cinema.

The passing of these remarkable individuals reminds us of life’s transient nature. Their contributions to art and culture continue to live on, even as they rest in peace.
