A 44-year-old security guard at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), identified as Damilola Otegba, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly engaging in acts of paedophilia.
The security guide was caught by a female student of the institution while trying to force himself on a six-year-old.
The arrest was confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, in a statement released on Thursday.Odutola stated, “On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at approximately 10:10 PM, Sherifat Bakare, a food vendor living on Araromi Ajebo Road near the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta, reported to the police station. She explained that while she was at the market, she received a call from her younger brother, Seyi Bakare, who had been left in charge of her shop on the FUNAAB campus along with her daughter.”
“Seyi told her that while searching for the six-year-old, the girl ran into the shop looking visibly frightened. When he asked what had happened, she disclosed that Damilola Otegba, a 44-year-old security guard assigned to a building on the campus, had taken her upstairs to his workplace.”
“He allegedly exposed himself, attempted to perform the stupid act, and then took her to a corner where he lay behind her.”
“The victim stated that she resisted his advances, and during the incident, an unidentified FUNAAB female student unknowingly entered the area.
“Upon noticing the inappropriate situation, the student confronted the man about his actions with the girl, which led to the institution’s chief security officer being informed,” the statement read.
Odutola confirmed that the girl was immediately taken to the school clinic for medical evaluation, and the FUNAAB Harmony Divisional Police Officer is currently awaiting the medical report to support the investigation.
She further stated that the suspect is in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran for a more comprehensive investigation.
