Renowned Fuji artist, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has become the center of online discussions due to his controversial remarks about Muslim clerics and his refusal to issue an apology.

Before the 8th-day Fidau prayer for his late mother, a video surfaced online showing K1 in conversation with another man. During their discussion, he used the phrase “G’anu si” in reference to the clerics, saying:

“Alfas will not go to my father’s house for the party. It’s my house they will ‘G’anu si.’”

This statement was widely interpreted as suggesting that clerics often attend social events uninvited, seemingly for financial benefits.

At the Fidau prayer event, held on Friday, January 24, a respected cleric, Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa, who delivered a sermon, called on K1 to apologize for his perceived disrespect toward the clerics. However, the musician declined, asserting that he had done nothing wrong.

“To admit guilt means saying, ‘Okay, don’t be angry.’ But there’s no reason for that because I have done nothing wrong. If you admit guilt, you are saying the accusations are true, which they are not,” K1 explained.

His refusal to apologize has since divided opinions within the Muslim community. While some supported his stance, others criticized him for allegedly disrespecting the clerics.

A segment of Nigerians expressed agreement with K1, claiming that some clerics habitually attend events uninvited. Others, however, argued that the clerics would not have attended the post-burial event without being invited by the musician himself.
