A 56-year-old pastor, Emeka Mkama, has been accused of sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident allegedly occurred on December 24, 2024, but only became public knowledge on Monday when it was reported to Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and the Chairman of Idemili North LGA, Chief Stanley Nkwoka.

Reports indicate that the case remained undisclosed until a staff member at Model Primary Health Centre in Obosi (name withheld) informed the Health Supervisor of Idemili North, prompting further action.

The suspect, originally from Ebonyi State, is reportedly a pastor at Jesus Build the Church Mission in Obosi.

A relative of the victim, speaking anonymously, shared that the child had been unwell since the alleged assault, but her family did not immediately report the matter to authorities.

“It was only when her condition worsened despite being treated with herbal medicine that her mother decided to seek medical care at a primary health facility,” the source stated.

During questioning, the mother disclosed that the suspect had already been in detention since the previous month. However, there were concerns that he might be released unless legal action was taken swiftly.

In response, Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State governor, intervened to ensure the case received proper legal attention.

A statement released on Monday by her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, confirmed that Mrs. Soludo had been informed of the case by the Commissioner for Health and the Idemili North LGA Chairman. She assured that all necessary legal measures were being taken to ensure justice.

“Upon receiving details of the incident, the governor’s wife immediately ordered close monitoring of the child’s health, with regular updates on her treatment and recovery sent directly to her office,” the statement read.

Additionally, she instructed the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, to oversee the case and ensure that legal procedures were fully pursued to hold the suspect accountable.

Mrs. Soludo also condemned the silence surrounding such crimes, emphasizing that addressing domestic and sexual violence requires people to speak up.
