The family of four-year-old Nelson Emale is urgently seeking financial assistance after he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect.

A letter from Dr. Angela Odike, a Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist at the Samara Heart Foundation, confirmed that Nelson’s condition was identified at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Edo State. This heart defect is a complex condition involving four structural abnormalities. Unfortunately, his parents are unable to afford the necessary medical treatment due to financial limitations.

In a letter to PUNCH Metro, Nelson’s parents shared that he frequently experiences severe crying episodes and breathing difficulties, known as “tet spells,” caused by insufficient blood flow to his lungs. These symptoms have worsened in the past month.

Investigations by DriveTV News revealed that Nelson was recently discharged from the hospital because his family could not cover the cost of his treatment. His parents emphasized the urgency of his condition, stating that he needs surgery at a cardiac center in Nigeria to correct the defect and improve his blood circulation.

The estimated cost for medical tests and surgery is N5 million. The family is appealing to the public for financial support to help save their son’s life.
