The Kano State Police Command has prohibited all Durbar activities for the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori announced this decision during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday. He stated that intelligence reports indicated potential threats from certain groups aiming to disrupt the event.

“Following credible intelligence on possible security threats, and after consulting with the Kano State Government and other key stakeholders, we have decided to suspend this year’s Durbar activities,” Bakori explained.

The Durbar, a longstanding tradition featuring royal horse processions and cultural displays, is a major highlight of Sallah festivities in Kano. However, concerns over public safety have led to its suspension this year.

Bakori assured residents that security agencies have implemented measures to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration. He urged worshippers attending Eid prayers at designated venues to adhere to security guidelines and avoid carrying items that could raise suspicion.

Additionally, he warned against reckless activities such as horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and unruly behavior. He also advised parents and guardians to prevent their children from being influenced by groups seeking to incite unrest.

“As we observe this important religious occasion, maintaining peace and security should be our shared priority. Everyone must act responsibly to uphold the safety and stability of our state,” he emphasized.

The police further encouraged residents to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

While some residents have expressed disappointment over the Durbar suspension, others acknowledge that the decision is necessary due to prevailing security concerns. Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
