An alarming situation has emerged in Anambra State, where an 18-year-old boy has reportedly impregnated at least 10 girls in just five months.
The State Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, raised concern over the issue, calling it a serious societal challenge that demands urgent attention.
According to Obinabo, two of the girls affected include the daughter and sales assistant of the boy’s former employer. These incidents occurred during the boy’s brief apprenticeship. Following these revelations, the boy was expelled from his place of training. Within two months of returning to his village, he allegedly impregnated eight more girls.
In a video shared on social media, Obinabo appealed to the public for guidance, saying, “This situation is overwhelming. The boy’s mother came to my office in distress. She said she lives in constant fear whenever she sees young girls approaching their house. She pleaded for help.”
The commissioner expressed her struggle in dealing with the matter, stating, “I don’t know if this is a spiritual issue. I asked the boy how he manages to convince so many girls. He simply said he tells them he loves them and plans to marry them once he becomes successful.”
For confidentiality, the commissioner withheld the identity of the boy and his community.
“This is a deeply troubling case, especially considering the boy’s age and the number of girls involved. I’m appealing to the public to help find a solution,” she concluded.
