A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced TikTok personalities Babatunde Peter Olaitan, known as Teee Dollar, and Tobilola Olamide, also known as TobiNation, to six months in prison each for violating laws regarding the misuse of Nigeria’s currency, the Naira.

On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Justice Alexander Owoeye delivered the judgment after both individuals pleaded guilty to separate charges of currency abuse. The incident occurred during a social gathering on April 8, 2025, at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi, where they were seen spraying N200 notes.

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) led the investigation, which began after a TikTok video of the event went viral. The footage showed the defendants dancing and spraying cash, prompting the EFCC to launch an inquiry.

Ibrahim Bukar, an EFCC investigator, testified that the viral video prompted the agency to issue a formal request for a statement from one of the defendants.

The charge against Olaitan stated that on April 8, 2025, he tampered with N200 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them, an offense punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007. Olamide faced a similar charge, and both admitted guilt during their court appearance.

Justice Owoeye imposed a six-month prison sentence on each defendant, with an option to pay a fine. The ruling is part of broader efforts to enforce laws against Naira abuse.

The EFCC has reiterated its stance against the spraying or mutilation of the national currency, emphasizing that such acts not only break the law but also diminish the Naira’s value and public trust.

This case follows the April conviction of another internet personality, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, who received a six-month sentence for similar offenses.
