A devastating fire broke out on Friday at the well-known mobile phone market in Kano, Kano State, destroying over 300 shops.
Jamilu Gama, the market chairman, confirmed the incident, stating that the blaze raged for approximately six to seven hours before firefighters managed to contain it.
According to Gama, the section most severely affected was the area where mobile phones and accessories are sold. He highlighted the extent of the damage, noting that a single shop could contain merchandise valued between ₦500 million and ₦1 billion — all of which was reduced to ashes.
Gama estimated the total losses to run into several billions of naira. He also mentioned that the cause of the fire had not yet been determined at the time of the report.
