A fatal electrical accident occurred early Saturday morning in the Tudun-Wada Pantami area of Gombe city, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to thirteen others.

The incident was triggered by a sudden high-voltage electricity surge from a nearby transformer, which caused extensive damage to electrical appliances and electrified surrounding metal objects.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, stated that officers from the Low-cost Divisional Police Headquarters were immediately dispatched to the scene. The area was secured, and the victims were promptly taken to medical facilities for treatment.

“Initial investigations revealed that five people died due to the electrocution, while thirteen others sustained various injuries,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the injured victims are currently receiving medical care at several hospitals in the state capital. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to different morgues: three to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe, one to the State Specialist Hospital, and one to the Bolari Filin Kwallo Mortuary.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, offered his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the surge and to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

The police have also called on the public to remain calm and to cooperate with ongoing emergency and investigative efforts to help prevent future occurrences.
