Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has reportedly passed away at the age of 90.
According to sources close to the Olubadan-In-Council, the respected monarch died in the early hours of Monday, during ongoing celebrations marking his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation.
Oba Olakulehin had ascended the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
A senior source within the palace, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed: “We received the sad news this morning that Kabiyesi has joined his ancestors. However, we await the official announcement from the state government.”
Another palace insider confirmed the development and noted that the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja—who is next in line to ascend the throne—is currently out of the country but is expected to return soon.
“He must have been informed of the situation and is likely making arrangements to return,” the source added.
