President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially announced the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London today at around 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness.
Following the news, President Tinubu reached out to the former First Lady, Aisha Buhari, to offer his heartfelt condolences. He has also directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the late president’s body back to Nigeria.
Muhammadu Buhari previously led the country as a military ruler from January 1984 to August 1985 and later returned to power as a democratically elected president in 2015, securing re-election in 2019.
In honour of the late statesman, President Tinubu has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.
