The founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, an Ibadan-based radio station, Oriyomi Hamzat, has tendered a public apology to Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.
Hamzat, on Tuesday, announced the lifting of the ban earlier placed on songs by artists under the Marlian label following the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Records, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. After his death, Hamzat had in 2024 directed that Naira Marley’s music be excluded from the station’s playlist due to public allegations linking the singer to the incident.
Speaking on-air, Hamzat expressed regret over his previous stance and acknowledged that his earlier comments about Marley were unfair.
“I sincerely apologize to Naira Marley for my harsh words and actions. At Agidigbo FM, we have decided to lift the ban, and from today, his songs will once again be played on our station,” he said.
To confirm the decision, the broadcaster immediately aired Marley’s track Tesumole.
