President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigeria’s newly appointed service chiefs to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity, stressing that citizens expect tangible outcomes rather than explanations.

During their decoration ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, the President challenged the military leadership to carry out their responsibilities with national pride and full commitment.

“As leaders of our armed forces, you must serve with utmost patriotism. Nigerians want results, not excuses,” he said in the presence of senior government officials and dignitaries.

Tinubu commended the Armed Forces for making progress against insurgency and criminal activities, noting the restoration of peace to several regions, the rescue of kidnapping victims, and the weakening of terrorist groups.

“I acknowledge your dedication and sacrifices. Nigeria appreciates your service,” he remarked.

However, the President warned of emerging threats across the North-Central, North-West, and some areas in the South, urging the military to respond swiftly and firmly.

“We cannot allow new criminal groups to gain ground. We must act decisively and prevent these threats from escalating,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing a proactive approach to security.

He added that his administration is committed to strengthening national security, stressing that development cannot thrive without safety and stability.

“This ceremony marks our renewed commitment to securing every Nigerian. Security is the foundation of progress, and our people must feel safe to benefit from governance,” he said.

Tinubu recently restructured Nigeria’s military leadership, replacing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, with former Chief of Army Staff Olufemi Oluyede. He also appointed Major General Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff alongside new service heads for the Navy and Air Force. The Senate confirmed the appointments earlier this week.
