Terrorists launched a late-night assault on Gidan Waya village in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing four residents and abducting twelve others during a violent raid that extended into the early hours of Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Promise Korau (18), Hycent Timothy (19), Mato Shagori (40), and Markus Ishaya, an elderly villager. Those kidnapped include Habibu Yahaya (42), Love Markus (38), Mummy Markus (49), Catherine Shitu (40), Ibrahim Bagobari (46), John Ibrahim (15), Rev. Istifanus Dungu (58), Christiana Dungu (14), Prince Dungu (13), Miss Dauda, Mrs. Rev. Danbala Inuwa (38), and one yet-to-be-identified individual.
Confirming the incident, the Akurmi Development Association (AKURDA) condemned the attack, describing it as “disheartening and barbaric.” Its National President, Yakubu Maigamo, urged security agencies to take urgent action to rescue the abductees and bring the perpetrators to justice.
This latest assault follows a string of violent incidents across Kaduna. Last week, armed bandits killed one person and injured several others in Ikara Local Government Area after blocking Pala-Sayasaya Road, where they reportedly seized motorcycles and kidnapped travelers.
In another incident, six farmers were abducted on their farms in Layin Danauta village, Kuyello Ward, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. Witnesses said the victims were working on their beans farm when the gunmen invaded.
Residents have appealed for stronger security presence in rural communities to prevent further bloodshed and kidnappings that have continued to plague the state.
